Where I look for inspiration
I look to God first and to other survivors.
I am a
Recently-Diagnosed Survivor
Biggest Fear When Diagnosed
Strangely enough, dying didn't enter my mind (even before the cancer was staged). My fear was everything that I was going to have to go through....could I get through it all to the other side? Then a friend of mine died from lymphoma. That's when dying became so real.
How did you overcome that fear?
By not looking into the future at all. I made it through one moment at a time.
What got you through your cancer experience?
My family and friends. Wow...when the chips are down, I was lucky enough to see how much I am so richly blessed with the most wonderful people around me. They were so great.
What advice would you like to pass on to others?
Fight! This is a battle and there will be skirmishes you will lose and ones you will win. You have to keep on going.
What was the most important lesson you learned?
How to be a true friend and that every moment we are given is precious.
What would you like to tell other women who are either newly diagnosed or too afraid to seek treatment?
If you have loved ones, you will seek treatment for them. It's cruel not too. If you're newly diagnosed, my best advice is to research, research, research. Knowledge truly is power and it gives you some control in a situation where you feel there is no control.
Best advice given to me by a Survivor
Just to continue the fight and even when you feel bad, keep on. When you don't want the chemo, keep on.
